Thanks for a gorgeous written record and a splendid photo journal of your time in Athens! I was there over 30 years ago...I think I took the same island-hopping tour you did; a couple of the names ring a bell. I have scads of photos but didn't label ANY of them, and now they all sort of run together. But your wonderful record was better than being there (I didn't have to pay) and it made me hungry (as just about anything you photograph or write about does). I'm really sad for you that you didn't get to go to the Parthenon because it was closed. Sickening. I would guess it's ringed by security cameras and anti-terror gadgets everywhere. Your photos reminded me of the first night I was in town; we went to the Plaka and had several drinks, and went for a full-moon hike with a local. The walk in the moonlight kept me occupied, so much that I didn't realize where we were heading until we made a bend, and there, directly above us, was that beautiful Parthenon in the moonlight. I have never forgotten it. But I still have my album...you've shown me yours and I'll share mine with you next time I see you. Thank you! Awesome.
